It's the late 90s, and I already have a huge love for Uli Jon Roth's music and guitar playing during his Scorpions era (he is in my top 5 favorite guitar players of all time). But what really blew my mind away as something totally different in terms of guitar playing and sound for my music taste came when I got a triple cd collection in my hands. Along with some of his Electric Sun records, there was an extra cd under the title of Prologue To The Symphonic Legends (Uli Jon Roth & Sky of Avalon). Specifically the track called Pegasus, was something I never heard before. There might have been so many artists through the years, trying to mix rock music with classical elements but to me, only Uli Jon Roth managed to blend 100% successfully electric guitar with classical music.
I had to wait until 2004 to see him live for the very first time in Rodon Live venue, opening for U.F.O. (with Vinnie Moore) and then in various times on and off stage (you can read my article on the Scorpions for more details).
This time, I had the opportunity to shoot Uli for the very first time and it was such a pleasure. Authentic, shockingly accurate playing in his 70s, still a pioneer, a true artist. Enjoy!
